The class will be taught on three Saturday mornings, starting on March 16th and leading up to the testing session at RARSfest on April 6. You don't need to be a RARS member to take the class! ...

Classes will run from 8:30 am to 12:35 pm on March 16th, 23rd, and 30th, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7000 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, and cover all the material you need to know to pass the exam for the entry-level amateur radio license. Instruction will be based on the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual, 5th Edition, available from the American Radio Relay League (you don't need to be a member to buy from the ARRL) and on Amazon.

Next RARS Gathering
Tuesday, March 26, 2024
Ridge Road Baptist Church,
2011 Ridge Road, Raleigh

Part show-and-tell, part maker fair, part operating event, the in-person RARS Gathering on the fourth Tuesday of each month is the place to be if you want to find out about the local ham community, meet other ham radio operators, see hands on demos of old and new ham radio equipment, get on the air, and exchange ideas in a fun forum. Members and non-members are welcome. ...

The meeting starts at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, but we start setting up at 6:00 pm, and you are welcome to bring your own ham radio equipment and projects to demonstrate, show off, or just work on with other like-minded hams -- we have plenty of tables. You might also find sources of coax, connectors, zip cord, Powerpoles®, and whatnot. For more information about The Gathering, please contact Tadd Torborg KA2DEW.

The RARS Volunteer Examiner Team conducts license exams at The Gatherings in even-numbered months. You do not need to be a RARS member to test with us. Exams start promptly at 6:00 pm so applicants can attend The Gathering, afterwards. Please see our License Classes and Exams page for important information, including the exam requirements. Preregistration is preferred and may be done by submitting the registration form on this page (select the Ridge Rd location and date). For more information about RARS license exams, please contact Richard Hall K7RLH, the RARS VE Chair.

RARS-L

If you unexpectedly stopped receiving emails from the rars-l reflector, read on. ...

Every year shortly after the end of October, we run a little routine to remove non-RARS members from the members-only rars-l email reflector.

The routine works by matching email addresses subscribed to the reflector against email addresses in the database of paid-up RARS members. Addresses that don't match an address in the database are unsubscribed.

If you were unexpectedly unsubscribed, it could be either because your RARS membership lapsed and you didn't realize it, or because the email address in your RARS membership profile is different from the email address with which you subscribed to the rars-l reflector. Either way, the fix is easy.

If your membership lapsed, you can renew it here. Once you have done that, you can resubscribe to the rars-l reflector here. Be sure to use the email address that is in your RARS member profile.

If your membership is current, then check that you are using the same email address for both your RARS member profile and the rars-l reflector. If you aren't, you can either change the email address in your RARS member profile here, or you can resubscribe to the rars-l reflector using your membership email address here.

The other possibility is that you are subscribed to rars-l using an email address in the icloud.com or mac.com email domains. For some unknown reason, we get a lot of bounces from rars-l emails to addresses in those domains. Email addresses that result in an excessively high number of bounces get automatically unsubscribed from the reflector. So, if you have an email address in either the icloud.com or mac.com email domains and all of a sudden you stop receiving emails from the reflector, that might be why. There is nothing we can do about this at our end. The problem is with the recipient's email service.

Your best bet is to resubscribe with a different email address that is not in either of those domains. But if you do resubscribe with a different email address, and this is important, be sure to change the email address in your RARS member profile to the same address. If the email address in your RARS member profile doesn't match the email address you used to subscribe to rars-l, you will get unsubcribed when we run "the purge" as described above.
