SATURDAY

Steve KE4TRG (right) was part of the Roanoke Amateur Radio Society contingent (yes, you Raleigh guys - another "RARS").  Steve handled Saturday's Rest Stop 7, just outside Williamston.

Vince KF4ZMV and his wife Anne (left) SAGged as part of the large Raleigh RARS group, as did Greg KG4AWG in his mobile com/weather center (below).  Greg was accompanied by his wife Joanie KG4AWG, who can squeeze into the front seat despite the hardware.

Three more from Raleigh - left is John KG4HDT, the new EC for the ARES operation at the State EOC (part of Wake County ARES), and above, Mike KC4WUH rides with brand-new ham Charles KG4MXV (Mike's kind of hard to see behind the windshield).  Between the two of them, they had enough radios and vehicles to make a SAG wagon.  Charles built a frame for his trailer to carry more bikes.  Later on, we put Mike with the mechanics, after the most frequent question on the repeater was "where's the mechanic?"

Robin WA4WPD was the only motorcycle on the tour.  We hope to more of them in the future.  The bicyclists say they like having motorcycles on the tour (maybe they envy the engine).

And Max KO4TV, another Raleigh ham, did double duty as a Rest Stop operator and SAG Wagon.  Note the antenna on the left side of the picture.  It's a homebrew mobile dual-band J-Pole.  Max sells 'em in a magnet-mount configuration.
