Tour de Cure
Raleigh to Outer Banks
May 5/6, 2001
We're Behind 'Em
The weather was perfect on Saturday morning, as 121 bikes left Five-County Stadium near Zebulon for the 180 mile, two day trek to Manteo.  This was the first year for this version of the Tour de Cure, which raised more than $40,000 for Diabetes treatment and research.

(Before the day was done, one of these riders in green shirts would end up in the hospital with a broken arm.)

See the Tour Operations site for maps of the route and a look at all the preparation we did.

More than 40 Ham Radio operators from across eastern North Carolina combined to provide excellent communications, using the Coastal Emergency Linking Network repeaters:
  • 145.27 Farmville
  • 147.12 Rocky Mt.
  • 145.41 Williamston
  • 146.835 Columbia
This is just some of the hams who took off from the Zebulon starting line on Saturday.  On the next few pages, we'll show as many of the hams in action as we can.  If we miss anyone, we apologize.  If we mis-identify anyone, we can fix it!
there are lots of pictures, many pages,
and you'll be burning up the phone lines
if you're on dial-up, so you better get started!
On with the Tour!
