RARS successfully operated a second Field Day operation of the lawn
of the State Capitol on Salisbury St., downtown Raleigh. The
goal for this 2A operation was to reach the public, while our main 8A operation
was tucked away at it's regular site in Apex. If you didn't make
it downtown, here's what it looked like:
"Winning" for this station in the highly competitive 2A class meant
getting noticed by the media, legislators and people wandering by.
We did stay on the air all night, and when Jeff AC4ZO totaled up the score,
he came up with:
Total claimed score = 3500 points on the nose.
Jeff's prediction: 140th place out of
589 entries in 2A. (This puts us at the 76th
percentile, top 25% in class). Not bad! Let's see what went
into it:
