Mark Kilmer KM4JRH (SK)

The RARS Board was saddened to learn of the death of Mark Kilmer KM4JRH on November 24, 2023. Our sympathies are with his family and friends.

Mark was a friend to many RARS members and known for his kind, generous, and jovial spirit. His passing leaves gaps that will take several people to fill.

He was the current RARS Secretary, a position he held for many years. He was a fixture at Field Day, as the 20 Meter Band Captain, as well as at RARSfest, as a volunteer wherever he was needed. He was a member of the RARS New Ham Education Team, helping to teach licensing classes. He checked into RARS nets regularly and attended many RARS dinners.

Mark's participation in the amateur radio community extended well past RARS. He was part of the K2J team for the 13 Original Colonies on the Air special event. He had a TARPN node and helped the NCPACKET project with machine and machine woodwork. He helped salvage ham radio antenna towers that would have otherwise gone to scrap, making them available for use by other radio amateurs. Mark participated in estate conversions to benefit widows of SK hams.

A memorial service for Mark will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 4:00 pm at the Hayes Barton Methodist Church located at 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. All are welcome.
